CURRICULUM
Gan Henel Early Learning Center believes in an experiential and intentional approach to teaching and learning. This approach fosters children’s intellectual development as they are encouraged to explore their environment and express themselves through words, movement, drawing, painting, playing and other natural modes of expression. We promote an environment where children can develop the critical thinking and problem solving skills for a successful and meaningful life.
The teachers at Gan Henel ELC engage the children in activities focused on relationships and inquiry. The environment has been designed to support rich learning experiences and social-emotional growth. Following an emergent and progressive curriculum in which Jewish values form the backdrop, the learning topics become negotiated between children and teachers. After careful observation and reflection, teachers offer additional materials and continually challenge the children to go deeper with their learning.
The Gan Henel Preschool curriculum is seamless and holistic. We combine the Judaic component of our curriculum with the rest of the curriculum. At Gan Henel we believe that we exist in Hashem’s world and, as such, even themes such as weather, shapes, colors and numbers reflect that.
We use the Jewish Calendar when planning our weekly themes. and we incorporate the themes into it. For example, around Rosh Hashana time, in addition to learning all about Rosh Hashana, we talk about new beginnings, all about me etc. Around Chanuka, we also focus on Fire safety, around Purim, on the 5 senses and so on.
